Introspection—Life in the Shadow of Time is a collection of 18 songs, originally composed in Bengali by saints and spiritual teachers within the bhakti tradition centuries ago, and now translated into English by Bhakti Gauravani Goswami, a practitioner of bhakti-yoga for over 50 years.
As the title suggests, these songs are deeply introspective, inviting listeners to reflect on existential questions like their true identity, the nature of time and transcendence, and the meaning and purpose of life. Unlike the previous recording project Sacred Song Symphony, which showcased over 100 bhakti songs performed in their original language, with traditional Indian instruments, Introspection—Life in the Shadow of Time sees Bhakti Gauravani Goswami adopting a modern approach. Using state-of-the-art digital music production tools and advanced recording equipment, he has crafted a rich tapestry of sound designed to resonate with listeners of all ages.
To complement the audio experience, each of the 18 songs is paired with vibrant, full-color illustrations—over 140 in total. This creates a multi-dimensional experience that engages both the ears and the eyes, drawing the listener deeper into the devotional essence of every composition. A commentary for each song further enriches the presentation.
